Day Trips: Grand Portage National Monument

From 1778 until 1802, welcomed by the Grand Portage Ojibwe, the North West Fur Company located their fur trading operations here. Today Grand Portage National Monument and the Grand Portage Reservation form a bridge between people, time and culture. The Visitor Information Center features an array of exhibits, images and artifacts. The Annual Rendezvous Days (commemorating historic festivities around the delivery of furs from wintering posts) and a Pow-Wow (sponsored by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa) are held the second weekend of August. The Grand Portage Casino is open 24/7.
